Aly Helyer’s Happy Family with Sheep borders on the nonsensical through the title. However, the abstract imagery suggests a strangling bond between members who seem to fit a predetermined outline of respectability while the chaotic interior space mingles and muddies any sense of individuality. The phrase ‘happy family with sheep’ then suggests a projected group identity for appearance and social acceptance, when it is anything but true.
