Sarah Hervey’s painting Purple Nude conveys a sense of the non-verbal communication of body language in the relationship of the figure’s feet and a very distinct line on the floor.  This relationship, in essence, is the meaning of the painting. The figure’s subconscious adherence to the boundary of the line raises questions of our own adherence to social mores, traditions and conventions.
