Darren Nixon’s painting is one of the favourites of the exhibition; people are either disturbed or delighted by these children. There is enough information for us to make sense of the scene, but not enough to give us an understanding of the narrative. We have recognition but not understanding and this in turn nullifies the recognition. Issues of social groups and identity are raised in this work.
