“I just wanted to say thank you for bringing such a wonderful exhibition to Ipswich. I’m a Fine Art student at UCS Ipswich, being able to view works of art by contemporary artists whose practice I share parallels with is inspirational.”

The Art School Gallery at Ipswich Museum was the fourth and final venue for the tour. What a conclusion! I think everyone who walks into the gallery for the first time gasps when they enter the incredible hexagonal atrium.
The space of the Art School Gallery is particular, with distinct challenges, one of which is a collection of smaller galleries made from what used to be studios in the old art school. The space is broken up and compartmentalised, all surrounding the vast atrium space. Not an easy space to curate. I chose to look at the challenge of this as an opportunity to carry my story-telling to it’s fullest conclusion. Each gallery would be a chapter in the story of This ‘Me’ of Mine, telling a story of a specific element related to the theme of This ‘Me’ of Mine. Something difficult to convey to a general audience, but vital to my curatorial conception of each space.
We had our final Artists in Conversation discussion with David Riley, Darren Nixon and Annabel Dover in the Art School, you’ll see that video by Hernietta Thomas below, and Ipswich Museum was host to the symposium, Identity in the Digital Age. The four symposium videos also by Henri, (2 hours worth!) can be seen from our VIDEOS page.
And finally, what you’ve all be waiting for, photographs of the exhibition by the fantastic Arnold Borgerth!
See all the works in the final expanded exhibition of This ‘Me’ of Mine at the Art School Gallery on our ARTWORKS pages – I didn’t want to give it all away at once!
